about
On ‘Call Me Up’, Aoife explains “ This track is about female empowerment. The power of women, smashing the patriarchy, changing societal norms and non- conformity. A powerful message for a hazy 80s Indie-pop song I know. I always like to have a punchy message paired with an unassuming song, you don’t have to be punk to be outspoken or heard.
When writing and releasing music it can often make you feel a little vulnerable. You are suddenly exposing ideas which once existed in your head, and now you’re opening it up for the world to see. I always feel like I’m giving a little bit of myself to the listener, a small part of me, my views, thoughts and feelings.
With this track we really wanted to dig our heels into what the future of Reevah will look and sound like. It was important to showcase what we have got to offer as a band.
The hazy 80s synth alt-pop world is where we are heading but we couldn’t forget about our indie roots, incorporating this was crucial. This track combines the best of both worlds featuring live brass, full band instrumentation, a pop vocal along with hazy synth pop elements. An insight into what’s to come.”
lyrics
Call me up,
To tell me you’re okay,
Another sunrise meets another day,
Waking up & shutting down,
Turn your frown from upside down.
Play by the rules get a 9-5,
tell your husband you’re so satisfied,
Cross my heart & hope to die
I don’t wanna be like you
(Break it down, crashing all around)
For one day it’ll not be this way
I’ll do me and you do you
And you get to choose,
you get to choose you
Breaking out, set me free,
You know you can’t define me,
So much more than what you take me for,
break my back to rage against this unfolding war,
Take a sip, let it slip I’ve said too much, but it’s worth it
Who am I to break the rules?
A mother a fighter, yeah I’ll walk all over you
I don’t wanna be like you
(Break it down, crashing all around)
For one day it’ll not be this way
I’ll do me and you do you
And you get to choose,
you get to choose you
Live your life free,
For one day it’ll not be this way,
Change society Yeah you get to choose you get to choose you
I don’t wanna be like you
(Break it down, crashing all around)
For one day it’ll not be this way
I’ll do me and you do you
And you get to choose,
You get to choose you
